On the morning of March 30th, invested and built by Shanghai Electric Group, the first large-scale commercial wind power-biomass green methanol integrated demonstration project was officially launched at the Green Energy Chemical Industry Park in West Jilin (Taonan), providing solutions to help achieve the "dual carbon" goal and build a new energy structure. Zhao Yanfeng, Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the Energy Administration of Jinlin Province, Yang Dayong, Deputy Secretary of the Baicheng Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, and Liu Ping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Shanghai Electric Group, attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
Based on the abundant renewable resources of wind power and biomass energy in Taonan, the project aims to build a "green new energy + green chemicals" industrial chain. The total investment of the project is 5.6 billion yuan. It plans to build a 250,000-ton wind power-biomass integrated facility for green methanol production, with a supporting construction of 680,000 kilowatts of new energy, for self-use and light grid connection. The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will establish a green methanol production capacity of 50,000 tons, with the first batch of qualified methanol expected to be produced in 2025. The production capacity is expected to reach 250,000 tons by 2027.
As a leading domestic power equipment manufacturer, Shanghai Electric has accumulated profound technical expertise in the fields of green energy and sustainable development. The core technologies, equipment design and manufacturing capabilities of the entire green methanol production chain, including wind power generation equipment, photovoltaic equipment, water electrolysis equipment, carbon capture, biomass gasification and methanol synthesis, will be applied to this project. It is worth mentioning that the technical route and related major equipment of the project have achieved the first industrial application both domestically and internationally.
In his speech, Liu Ping stated that the commencement of the Taonan Green Methanol Demonstration Project is a new starting point for Shanghai Electric to build benchmark demonstration projects, and an important milestone in its support for Jilin Province&39;s new energy system construction. Shanghai Electric will strive for the achievement of the &39;dual carbon&39; goal, leveraging its expertise in various green methanol technologies such as new energy equipment, green hydrogen production from renewable sources, biomass gasification, and methanol synthesis. By harnessing its diverse equipment and comprehensive industry chain capabilities, Shanghai Electric will establish a scalable green methanol production technology route, and promote the construction of the first high-quality commercial green methanol project in China. It will seize future industrial development opportunities and cultivate new momentum for green development.
During the ceremony, Chris Chatterton, the Chief Operating Officer of the Methanol Institute, extended congratulations on the project&39;s commencement via video.
